Watch Hilary Duff Re-Create Her Iconic ‘That’s So Gay’ Anti-Bullying PSA: ‘A Culture-Defining MOMENT’

Think homophobia’s cool? That’s so yesterday. On Thursday, Hilary Duff took to social media to re-create her iconic anti-bullying PSA that taught an entire generation of millennials to stop saying: “That’s so gay.”

Luckily, the “That’s What Dreams Are Made Of” singer had some help from Pentatonix star Scott Hoying and his fiancé Highlight Manio, who gamely played the roles of the girls Duff sassily educated in the 2008 clip.

“Do you prefer this top?” Hoying lip-synced, to which Manio thoughtlessly replied, “So gay.” Overhearing the pair, Duff interrupted to kindly end homophobia in its tracks.

“You know, you really shouldn’t say that,” the Lizzie McGuire alum chided. “Say that something’s male lover when you mean it’s bad. It’s insulting.”

Now more than ever, it is moment we give members of the Queer community recognition for their bravery. 

Oct. 11 is National Coming Out Day, a day that supports members of the community for coming out of the closet. Perhaps in this day and age, you’d assume it would be easy to be out and proud; however, that’s not the case.

So many steps forward hold been made in recent years worldwide. Gay marriage existence legalized in the U.S. is still relatively new, the bill only creature passed seven years ago. And across the world, more countries are legalizing gay marriage, with the most recent laws being passed in Cuba on Sept. 26.

This is amazing progress, but there is no denying that in an instant, it all can be taken back and set to square one again.

For instance, the “Don’t Utter Gay” bill that was passed in Florida earlier this year. In the state of Florida now there can not even be a mention of LGBTQ+ individuals in coursework, and if so, their mentor would be fired.

What is there to fear? Love? Happiness? Why are people being targeted for loving someone? The world always promotes free love; however, it seems as if gay admire is left out of that conversation.
