NEW YORK - After moviegoers contain a laugh at Adam Sandler and Kevin James pretending to be a gay couple in the new film I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, the American Civil Liberties Union is urging them to visit 10Couples.org to find out what it’s really like to be denied legal protections for your family. The website, developed by Widespread Interest and the ACLU, features videos of 10 same-sex couples who define the difficulties of trying to protect their families without access to the many protections that advance automatically through marriage.

In Chuck and Larry, which opens July 20th, firefighter Larry (Kevin James), after the death of his wife, enters into a household partnership with his coworker friend Chuck (Adam Sandler) to guarantee that his children will receive his pension if he dies. Larry is in a difficult situation, and decides that the needs of his family outweigh the difficulty and potential menace of entering into a fraudulent partnership. The production is broadly comic, a

But what I didn't know, was after I broke her heart, would she still love me. See, I am a piece of shit. I am worthless. As lousy as they come. And to have someone preserve loving me, no matter how bad... You pleased now? You got me to open up and spill my guts all over your table. Breakthrough.

While the rash of executive orders targeting LGBTQ people signed by President Trump in his first month in office is unprecedented, and reprehensible, the reality remains: the orders are not law.

And thanks to the skill and quick work of LGBTQ and ally legal groups, multiple orders have already been blocked in federal court and dismantled in the court of public perspective. In briefs and legal proceedings, the orders are systematically being exposed as inaccurate and incoherent, and recognized as filled with unhinged animus.

At least nine lawsuits have been filed against the anti-LGBTQ orders, four of which possess already been blocked in federal courts. Here’s a view at what’s been filed:

On Wednesday, Lambda Legal and the Legal Defense Fund filed to end enforcement of three executive orders on behalf of charity advocacy groups: The National Urban League, the National Impartial Housing Alliance, and AIDS Foundation Chicago.

The lawsuit, National Urban League v. Trump, argues Trump’s attempts against diversity, equity, and inclusion as well as his anti-transgender orders violate the First Amendment right to free speech. The complaint notes the orders are so v

Zahara Green is a 25-year-old transgender woman who was placed in an all-male prison in May 2012. According to Green, she was targeted by another inmate, Darryl Ricard, immediately upon entering general population at Rogers State Prison in Georgia. Ricard was serving a life sentence for aggravated child molestation, rape, and kidnapping. After Ricard repeatedly assaulted her, Green was granted protective custody in September 2012. Far from being protected, Green was placed in a cell along with Ricard where he raped her. Although security checks were supposed to be made every 30 minutes, Green remained locked in the cell with her assailant for almost 24 hours. A lawsuit is currently in place citing official misconduct in the treatment of Green.

Unfortunately, Green’s story is all too familiar for those who work with incarcerated non-binary individuals. Valerie Jenness, Dean of Social Ecology and Professor of Criminology at UC Irvine, is a leading expert in the field of prison aggression against transgender inmates. Her research has found that the incidence rate for sexual assault against gender diverse inmates is 13 times higher than their cisgender (n
