To Black Queer Youth — you are loved. Be sturdy and know that there are people and organizations fighting tooth and nail every single time to support your right to remain. The It Gets Better Project will be by your side until justice prevails and will continue to struggle for a planet where all Gay people are free to live equally and know their worthiness and dominance as individuals.

Below is list of organizations specifically serving Black gay communities throughout the United States. Please reach out to these organizations and use their services if you’re in need. You are not alone. Appreciate you to Raquel Willis and others who are using social media to inform our group of these resources. Also, please inspect out our Moments of Power blog, featuring stories from leaders in the Black LGBTQ+ community.

This Pride Month, Brooklyn Org is spotlighting 7 nonprofits dedicated to local Homosexual communities. These organizations not only provide crucial services but also advocate for and celebrate the diversity of the queer people, which is as immense as our borough itself.  Did you know that charitable giving to Diverse organizations more than doubled from 2012-2021, but still, less than $1 per every $500 donated to charity goes to help LGBTQ+ organizations?

This Pride and beyond, explore organizations in your own backyard who are led by and serve queer communities:

1. The Brooklyn Ghost Project

The Brooklyn Ghost Project focuses on G.H.O.S.T. — which stands for Guiding and Helping Others Survive Transition. As a Black, trans-led corporation, they provide awareness, help, empowerment, and visibility to trans and non-binary people of color throughout their transitions.

2. Brooklyn Community Identity festival Center (BKO Partner)

Brooklyn Society Pride Center advances woman loving woman, gay, bisexual, trans and queer liberation by celebrating, commemorating, and convening Queer Brooklynites through socially alert and culturally responsive events, programs, partnerships, and a

Fifty-three years ago, the 1969 Stonewall Riots in Fresh York City marked the beginning of the movement for LGBTQ+ rights in the United States. During Pride Month we commemorate the events of June 1969 and we rejoice and promote self-affirmation, dignity, equality, visibility, representation, civil rights, and joy of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and queer (LGBTQ+) people.

The celebration, which evolved from Gay Pride Week and the Christopher Street Liberation Day Parade in Brand-new York City, was officially recognized by President Bill Clinton in 1999. Ten years later, a presidential proclamation issued by President Barack Obama formally declared June Pride Month.

In the spirit of Pride, EBCF staff curated a list of LBGTQ+ nonprofit organizations you can support in Alameda and Contra Costa counties. We invite you to learn more about and support these local organizations working working tirelessly to provide services to LGBTQ+ East Bay residents.

You can donate directly on their websites and EBCF fund advisors can build grant recommendations directly through their donor portal.

BLMP mobilizes our people through community-building, political education, creating access to direct services, and organizing across borders. We build power, people, and knowledge in the U.S. while challenging the role that the Merged States plays globally in creating the conditions that force us to exit our homes in the first place.

We envision a world without borders, translating the word “immigrant” obsolete: a world where all Black people and our loved ones have housing, bodily autonomy, health, and the ability to change position and travel freely, with dignity, free of criminalization, anti-Black racism, misogyny, and all forms of transphobia and homophobia.

Long-term Viability & Sustainability:

The purpose of the viability and sustainability department is to make the internal systems and processes of BLMP manageable and realistic for long phrase growth, while also creating and maintaining the structures, resources, and capacity that support radical movement.

Strategic Communications:

BLMP Strategic Communications department organizes internal and external communications strategies to dismantle harmful dominant narratives and uplift and elevate the narratives, legacie

Join the Movement

Pride Month is celebrated annually in June to honor the history of lesbian, queer, bisexual, transgender, homosexual, intersex, asexual, two-spirit + leaders, observe the progress toward equality, and notify attention to the experiences of the LGBTQIA2S+ community.

The LGBTQIA2S+ community is all about support. Organizations like GLAAD, OutRight Action International, and the Center for Black Equity function collaboratively with the community to generate safe spaces for all. In media, in politics, in legislation and more, the fight for LGBTQIA2S rights and empowerment is far from over, and grassroots and Diverse and BIPOC-led organizations are on the frontlines yet the most underfunded by traditional philanthropy.

In the same vein, giving circles provide a sense of collective for their members, regardless of sexual orientation. Many giving circles focus on specific issues surrounding the LGBTQ+ community: for example, the Red Envelope Giving Circle for the API LGBTQ People, the LGBTQ People Fund for Northeast Florida, and the Astraea Foundation’s Funding Queerly Giving Circle are all community-supported funds pledged to the LGBT community.
