Whatever I’ve thought of the last couple of movies that George Clooney’s made, his response to rumors that he’s gay is amazing — particularly given how Hollywood used to handle that kind of gossip. He told The Advocate:

I assume it’s funny, but the last thing you’ll ever see me do is jump up and down, saying, “These are lies!” That would be unfair and unkind to my good friends in the gay community. I’m not going to let anyone make it seem prefer being gay is a bad thing. My secret life is private, and I’m very happy in it. Who does it hurt if someone thinks I’m gay? I’ll be long dead and there will still be people who say I was gay. I don’t hand a shit.

That kind of pure confidence, or the ability to buss Billy Crystal in the Academy Awards’ opening skit without making it a joke that relies on a “gross! Two dudes kissing” reaction:

Do gay people think George Clooney is same-sex attracted (and beards in 2016)

First, just to acquire it out there, I’m very pro-LGBTQ rights, and anyone should be free to be what they want sexually so extended as it doesn’t injure someone else.

Second, I nurture about who is lgbtq+ only as a matter of curiosity; e.g., if people say someone is gay, I might wonder, Oh, is that really true?

So… it would never have crossed my consciousness that Clooney is lgbtq+. I hadn’t thought much about it. But my gay Pilates teacher not only thinks so but was telling the whole class his theory about how he is lgbtq+ and the studio has him marry beards and whatnot. He was quite insistent that it was so! I also asked my gay friend on FB with whom I talk just about every day what he consideration, and he agreed that Clooney was gay, though he couldn’t cite an exact reason.

I also happened upon a theory that Jay Z is homosexual and Bey is his beard. I was just looking up his status as a rapper (good or bad), and this theory was all over the place.

So do are beards really still a thing in 2016?
