Grindr is the most popular�LGBTQ�dating app in the world and a cemented part of queer culture. The company has been known to step in and take activity to protect its gay users. For example, the app recently set up a service that enables users to order a free HIV test at the push of a button.
If you use the app you will perceive that many users leverage online slang or abbreviations. Let’s take a peek at what some ordinary acronyms used on Grindr mean.
What does GEN indicate on Grindr?
If you see the term “GEN” on Grindr it stands for generous. If someone describes themselves as a gen guy, for example, it means that they are willing to compensate someone money for certain services. This could be anything from companionship to going to dinner to a romantic relationship.
NPNC
The term NPNC stands for “No Pic, No Chat.” If you see this on someone’s Grindr profile, it means that they will not engage in conversation with any users who do not possess a profile picture. The acron

Gen is a label for a fanwork that contains no romantic or sexual content, either het (heterosexual) or slash (homosexual). The phrase comes from "general audiences", the MPAA term for a child-safe film. However, it shouldn't automatically be considered G-rated (suitable for adolescent children). It can--and often does--deal with mature subjects, including graphic violence and other potentially complex themes.

In practical terms, mild heterosexual content is often considered acceptable in a gen story, as it would be in a network television episode. The "het" label may be reserved for more adult/explicit stories, or those where the main plot concerns a intimacy. Many gen stories do involve characters who are romantically involved in canon, but there are few slash stories of this type, because relatively rare shows or films that appeal to media fans comprise homosexual relationships in canon.

Gen, short for openness, used in personal ads to thinly veil offers to make/receive payment for sexual acts. Typically these ads are short, confusing, and only those writing them and looking for them are suppose to be able to easily translate them.

“Queer” is a queer synonyms. On the spectrum of tear-inducing insults, I recollect feeling like it was one step below “faggot” as a kid. “Stop acting like a queer,” classmates would say to me in the fifth grade, usually right after I talked excitedly about Destiny’s Child newest video. Today, queer is more empowering than it is demeaning. It has turn into a disruptive sexual culture. To be clear: gender non-conforming is not just another way of saying “I’m gay.” Being queer means existing outside of the sometimes simplistic labels of gay, straight, and bi, because sexuality is a lot more complicated than that. Openly queer Gen-Z celebrities like Rowan Blanchard and Amandla Stenberg own led the charge in educating the public about what exactly queer means nowadays. “Yes open to liking any gender in future is why I identify as queer,” Rowan told a fan on Twitter, explaining her personal relationship to the synonyms. Rowan is not alone in her openness, either. It’s estimated that over half of American teens do not identify as straight. However, these teens are not using labels like “gay” and ‘bi” to describe themselves. So we wonder: Will Generation Z come to be known as Generation Q(ueer)?
