AC/DC frontman Bon Scott led a high-voltage life. But his friends say the singer's unglamorous death at age 33 was not a surprise
He's Australian rock music's most iconic figure.
After slogging it out through 15 years of touring, boozing and in-your-face performances, Bon Scott was on the cusp of international stardom with AC/DC.
Then, out of the blue, he was found dead in a tiny Renault on a freezing day in London in 1980. He was 33.
It was an inglorious end to a life lived in technicolour, one that has spawned countless books, articles and theories from fans and devotees around the world.
I've read most of them in the course of researching tonight's Australian Story episode on the enigmatic singer.
However, the story that most rings true to me is told by a 75-year-old in a wheelchair in the Adelaide working-class suburb of Largs North.
Health problems have prevented Bruce Howe from playing his beloved bass guitar for the past seven years.
But, in the early 1970s, he was Bon Scott's housemate and the undisputed chief of Fraternity, the art rock band that Bon sang — and played recorder — with before joining AC/DC in 1974.

Behind the Band Name: AC/DC
AC/DC’s signature berets and schoolboy uniforms are only part of the reason the band is so widespread across the globe. The Scottish band, formed in Australia, has had countless songs in many, many films. From the beloved Iron Man to Jack Black’s rock ‘n’ roll comedy School of Rock, AC/DC has never failed to portray a character’s inner badass (just see at Kristen Wiig in Bridesmaids or their innumerable songs featured in the TV series Supernatural).
But their rebel culture hasn’t only rubbed off on fashion and film, from the ’90s onward the band has received multiple Grammy, MTV, and ARIA Awards and nominations. So, while their music and fashion have embraced our inner rebel school youngster, their unconventional hard rock bagpipes have roped in an unusually massive fanbase. Beyond their influence though, is their band label, and we are here to discover just how the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band got their name.
Behind the Name AC/DC
Electricians are probably thrilled to have a world-renowned rock band named after them. That’s right, the mention AC/DC comes from an electrical term, “alternating current/direct current.” The term “al
Steve McKnight and GayC/DC: Breaking the Rainbow Ceiling
In the world of rock, there are musicians, and there are musicians. That italicized item consists of those who derive intense bliss from performing and creating music which is ingrained thick within their entity and their very soul, transcending the sole pursuit of adulation and attention. I’ve been fortunate to have approach into contact with some of those icons who are familiar to those who know of my published interviews and my retain musical creations.
There is one equally talented individual who may not be as familiar as those I allude to: musician and guitar virtuoso Steve McKnight. Steve started out as a Facebook contact who developed into a actual friendship. Though tough rock wasn’t my forte, I heard some tracks from Steve’s band Wail Wolf and instantly recognized his musical acumen.
I approached Steve when I was assembling tracks for what was to become my first album and my only one to date, Creétisvan. I had written a rocking tune titled “Automaton” where I needed a searing electric guitar solo and felt Steve would be a perfect option. He did not disappoint: Steve saw exactly what the song needed, and

-THE WORLD’S FIRST AND ONLY ALL-GAY TRIBUTE TO THE MUSIC OF AC/DC!
Founded in 2013 by Chris Freeman (bass player from iconic queer punk band Pansy Division), the idea for GayC/DC came from bouncing around names for more tribute bands with gay members after he’d been playing with the Gay Gay’s (gay tribute to the Go Go’s) for more than a decade. Once the Gay Gay’s went on hiatus, Freeman moved forward with forming a band that could be as good as AC/DC.
Freeman began by recruiting li
